SPOT

Last Friday Room 11 got Spot in assembly because we had been sitting up and listening so good.  Spot has been busy in Room 11:

Museum and Art Gallery Trip

On a sunny but cold winter’s morning R11 and R13 hopped on the bus to go to the museum.  Once we got there we got into our groups. There were 3 groups, red, blue and black. 

When we were with Wendy in the museum part we learnt about the rock called Greywacky.  We also learnt about how the world came together.  She told us that how NZ was once in the ocean.  Rocks from the mountains have fossils in them that show they were once underwater.  We also saw a model showing how farmers used to irrigate the land using borderdykes.  But the farmers found that this way of irrigating took away the good soil as well.  Now farmers use pivot irrigators that sprinkle the water on more finely.

When we were Ruth we learnt about different kinds of rocks. The rocks were out of volcanoes.  They were sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous.    Sedimentary rocks are squashed rocks made out of metamorphic and igneous rocks.  They are found deep under mountains.  Metamorphic rocks are found in the volcano, and are then uplifted to the surface as the overlying rock has been eroded away.    Igneous rocks are hot rocks, they are found in volcanoes.  Some people got to hold one with a fossil in it. One even had an amethyst in it.

At the art gallery part we saw different kinds of art.  Some were very popular.  We weren’t allowed to touch the art.  We watched a video about being deep under the sea and sea volcanoes.  While we were watching the video the second time we could draw sea creatures and what we could see at the bottom of the sea.  There was coral, fish, sharks, eels and a number of different sea creatures.

At the end we went into the foyer to get ready for the bus.  There were lots of poppies people had made.  We said, “thank you” to the teachers who had taught us so much and headed back to school.

Sewing

CROSS COUNTRY

         

On the 24th of May we had Cross Country at 2pm.  We went out the watch the serious runners do their 3 laps first.  

First, we sat down behind our cone.  When we were sitting behind our cone the little kids started running.  I felt nervous waiting and excited at the same time.

Next, Miss Wise let us through a gate to the starting line.  We were racing with Rooms 13 and 10.  "On your marks, get set". SNAP! went the clappers.  We were off and racing!  I was stuck in a mess of runners but I got in front of them  I ended up beside my friend Milla from Room 13.

Then I caught up to Lucy and Ruby(Lucy's sister), they were in the lead! I came first equal with Lucy and Ruby.

My favourite part was coming 1st because I have never came 1st before and I bet all the big Room 10 kids.

Sewing

This term our art topic is sewing.  On Wednesdays we are enjoying having helpers in our room for sewing.

NETBALL with Brooke

With Brooke today we had a challenge where we had to
 pass with a bounce pass to the first person,

and an overhead pass to the last person.

We had to practice first, then we had a challenge to see who could do it the fastest.

It was a lot of fun.

Technology Challenge

Yesterday Room 11 had to make an egg pad for our egg to land on.  My buddy was Connor and he was really good at making it.  Our egg did not crack when we dropped it from the fort, it only had a little dent in our one.  When I dropped the egg it rolled on the mat then it fell off.
Next time I make one I want to try and make it wider, squisher and taller so the egg does not fall off the mat.
My favourite mat was Indi and Alizah's because it was super squishy for the egg to land on.  Natasha and Harrison's egg didn't crack, it was cool.
